CLOAK OF LIFE

We live in "casings" , birth to tomb
First infant...wrapped in mother's womb,

Later years wrapped in tradition,
living  a life without decision

When, at last we shed that shirt
...and wrap ourselves in mother earth

Infinite Blue

Our moon is a silver chalice

to drink from

before we slumber

sheltered in each other's arms.

How could I not love you

more each day

knowing

there can be no compromise?

Our stars are gods to wish upon-

errant dreams

guiding the owl's shadow

in the windows before daybreak.

Love's Charge

No felon hunted down by burly cops
could so resign himself to his arrest
before a gun barrage that never stops,
as I, who cede before your ardent quest
to send me to the prison of your arms.
A bruiser threatening the use of force,
could not intimidate me like your charms,
to follow you along your chosen course.
And I who fought opponents with more might
than you - when honor made me stand my ground -
delight imagining my taking flight
to empasize the ties that leave me bound.
Yet, weary from opposing love's constraint
I waive my civil rights without complaint.

"My Death"

When I die the sea will rage
And swells will thrash the rocks!
Stars will fall!  The moon go in eclipse!
Volcanoes will erupt and spray their ash
And liquid red into the firmament!
All to tell the deity I died.
I think he wouldn't notice otherwise.

Joseph Hart
